From Capture to Conversion: Key Takeaways from Our Editing Workshop
This past week, our Whipped Lash® and Content That Attracts interns gathered for an impactful workshop focused on photo and video editing for social media success. And the energy in the room was unmatched!
We were honored to welcome Katherine Nunez, Founder of Solqa Media, and James Doig, Founder of Social Scourers, who generously poured into our intern team with real-world insights, honest advice, and practical guidance for navigating the ever-changing content and marketing landscape.

Here are some of the standout lessons we’re still thinking about; and that we hope our interns (and readers!) continue to carry with them.
Editing with Intention Starts with the Brand
When editing content, it’s essential to always consider the brand, its goals, and the target audience. One of the most important roles of a content creator or social media manager is helping bridge the gap between what a client wants and what is actually being communicated to the ideal customer.
Editing isn’t just about making things look good; it’s about making them make sense.
You Don’t Need Fancy Equipment to Create Great Content
In an industry that’s constantly evolving, it’s easy to feel pressure to invest in the latest tools or apps. But one of the biggest reminders from the workshop was this: your phone, Canva, and CapCut are more than enough to create high-quality, effective content.
The focus should always be on storytelling, clarity, and consistency; not chasing the next shiny tool.
Templates Are a Starting Point! Not the Finish Line
Templates can be incredibly helpful, but they shouldn’t replace creativity. Start with templates, then customize and refine them until they reflect your brand, your client, and your voice.
What sets great content apart is intention; not sameness.
Your Unique Perspective Is Your Superpower
While staying current with tools and AI is important, Katherine and James emphasized that what will truly differentiate you is your unique perspective and personal style.
Find what makes your work recognizable. Hone it. Lead with it.
No algorithm can replace authenticity.
Know Your Value and Protect Your Energy
The workshop also covered practical (but often overlooked) topics like:
Identifying red flags with clients
Building a strong, intentional portfolio
Doing a little market research (yes, it’s okay to spy 👀)
Setting prices confidently and knowing your worth
Confidence grows with experience, and preparation helps quiet doubt.
Let Go of Imposter Syndrome
One of the most powerful reminders of the night was this: everyone has their own journey and their own lane. Comparison only distracts from growth.
Collaboration over competition! Always.
Perfect Timing for What’s Ahead
To feel prepared and confident capturing content in the real-world, we recommend having a simple but effective content-creation kit, including:
An LED rechargeable clip light
A phone LED ring light
A mini microphone (USB-C)
A portable charger
A tripod stand
Sometimes, being prepared is the difference between missing the moment and capturing it.
We’re incredibly proud of how our interns continue to show up, learn, and grow. Huge thanks again to Katherine and James for sharing their knowledge and helping shape the next generation of creators, managers, and agency owners.
If you’d like to learn more about our internship program or upcoming workshops, be sure to follow along—and stay tuned.
